Gottfried Bernhardy

Gottfried Bern Hardy ( born March 20, 1800 in Landsberg on the Warta River, † May 14, 1875 in Halle ( Saale) ) was a German philologist.

Life

Bern Hardy was the son of a Jewish merchant. At age eleven, Bern Hardy came in 1811 at the Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium in Berlin. Upon successful completion and Bern, Hardy matriculated in 1817 at the University of Berlin, where he was inter alia Students of philologists August Boeckh, Philipp Karl Friedrich August Wolf and Buttmann.

1820 Bern Hardy was employed at the urging of his faculty member of the Department of scholarly schools and, as such, as an assistant teacher in Berlin and the surrounding area; inter alia, on Friedrichswerder school. on October 30, 1822 Bern Hardy was able to successfully defend his thesis and received his doctorate and already with effect of 28 March 1823, he was - after also successful habilitation - to aoProf. appointed. As such, he got a job as a lecturer at the University of Berlin.

1829 he was appointed o.Prof. and he was called Bern Hardy successor to Karl Christian brushwood at the University of Halle. Bern Hardy led as director of the philological seminar brushwood continued work on semasiology and led from 1844 as a librarian, the University Library. He lived in the Great Hall in Märkerstraße 6

1862 Bern Hardy was appointed a Privy Councillor and died as such at the age of 75 years on May 14, 1875 in Halle.
