Birth and childhood

Granit Xhaka grew up in Klein-Basel, where its coming from Pristina in Kosovo parents lived.

Career

Clubs

Starts at Concordia and at FC Basel

Xhaka was taken four years of his father and brother for training the FC Concordia Basel. His father said once that he was a talent. He was glad that he was forced to speak to the football. He joined in January 2003 in the youth department of FC Basel. Three years later, he played for the U-21 team. In the years 2008 to 2010, he played 37 matches and scored eleven goals.

From the 2010/11 season Xhaka was in the first team squad. His debut in an official match he gave on 28 July 2010 at the qualifying match for the UEFA Champions League 2010/11 against the VSC Debrecen. This away game at the Budapest Ferenc Szusza Stadium was won by FC Basel 2-0, with granite Xhaka scored the second goal. His first goal in the Swiss football championship, he scored the meantime 3:1 in a 5-1 home win against FC Thun on May 15, 2011.

In the seasons 2010/2011 and 2011/12 Xhaka was with FC Basel Swiss Champion and 2011/12 Cup Winners addition.

Changes to Borussia Mönchengladbach

For the 2012/13 season Borussia Mönchengladbach committed Xhaka. He signed a five-year contract until 30 June 2017. Xhaka debuted on August 18, 2012 for Gladbach as he stood in the starting eleven in the first round of the DFB Cup against Alemannia Aachen. Gladbach, where Xhaka has not been substituted, won that game 2-0. His league debut came on 25 August 2012, when it was used in a 2-1 victory on the opening day against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim; his first Bundesliga goal he succeeded on 15 September 2012, when he equalizer for Gladbach marked in the 2:3 defeat on Matchday 3 against 1 FC Nuremberg. Xhaka was early in the season regulars, before a crisis ensued. After a 0-4 defeat in October 2012 against SV Werder granite Xhaka lost his place due to a more defensive variant. So he was brought on from the ninth Matchday mostly.

National

For the Swiss U- 17 national team, he played 12 games and scored two goals. He made his debut on 24 September 2008 in a 2-1 home win in the World Cup qualifier against Iceland. With the team he became world champion in the U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009.

On June 4, 2011, he was in the European Championship qualifier against England at Wembley in his debut for the A- Nationalmalmannschaft Switzerland. In the test match on 15 November 2011 in a 1-0 away win against Luxembourg at the Stade Josy Barthel, he scored his first international goal.

Granite Xhakas older brother Taulant Xhaka is also a professional footballer.
