Grant - Valkaria is a city in Brevard County in the U.S. state of Florida with 3,850 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Grant - Valkaria is adjacent to the cities of Malabar and Palm Bay. The town is located about 70 km south of Titusville and about 100 km south-west of Orlando.

History

Since the 1880s, the settlements Grant and Valkaria existed within the boundaries of Brevard County. By order of 25 July 2006, this two municipalities were merged by a referendum in an Incorporated City and connected as a community and city government Grant - Valkaria.

Grant has made over the years as a fishing town a name, there is a seafood festival every year.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 3,850 inhabitants distributed to 1,767 households. The population density was x inh. / Km ². 91.4 % of the population were white, 3.9 % African American, 0.5% Native American and 1.6% Asian Americans. 0.9% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.8% in different ethnic groups. 4.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 32.1 % of all households lived in 21.9 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 74.0 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.43 persons and the average family size was 2.75 persons.

18.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 12.3% were 20-39 years old, 40.8 % were 40-59 years old and 28.3 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 51 years. 50.1 % of the population were male and 49.9 % female.

The average annual income was $ 54,906, while 4.0% of the population lived below the poverty line.

Culture

Since 1966, takes place every year in the last week of February instead of the Grant Seafood Festival.

The historic Bensen House was built in 1916 by Atley Bensen and now serves as a museum and headquarters of the Grant Historical Society.

Traffic

Grant - Valkaria is from Interstate 95 and U.S. Highway 1 (SR 5) crosses. The nearest airport is Melbourne International Airport ( about 20 km north).
