Grass Island, South Georgia
Iceland Grass ( Grass Island) is an uninhabited island in the Stromness Bay, a bay on the north coast of the South Atlantic island of South Georgia.
Grass is located 2.5 kilometers from the former whaling station Stromness. The flat, crescent-shaped island is about 700 meters long ( north-south) and, on average, barely 400 meters wide.
Beginning of the 19th century was known the island still under the name Mutton Iceland ( mutton island); since around 1920, but is Grass Iceland 's official name.
