Grigoris Varfis

Grigoris Varfis ( born January 2, 1927 in Athens ) is a Greek socialist politician.

In the second half of 1983 Varfis was president of the Council of the European Union. Later he was 24 July 1984 to 5 January 1985 Member of the European Parliament and took there the interests of the Socialist Party ( PASOK). Subsequently, he was until 1989 the EC Commissioner for Relations with the European Parliament and Regional Policy (1985) and subsequently structural instruments and Consumer Protection (1986 to 1989) in which the first Commission Jacques Delors.
