Grou

Grou ( Dutch: Grou) is a village in the municipality of Leeuwarden in the Dutch province of Friesland. It has about 5700 inhabitants (2008 ) and is located at the Prinses Margriet Canal.

Until the local government reform of 1984 Grou was the capital of the former municipality Idaarderadeel, then capital of the municipality Boarnsterhim. Since 1 January 2014, the town belongs to Leeuwarden. In 1989, the Frisian name is the official name of the village.

Economy and infrastructure

Grou has a port which is mainly used in water sports.

The village lies on the A32 motorway and has a railway station on the railway line Zwolle - Leeuwarden, which is operated in passenger transport.
