Guarda District

The Guarda District (Distrito da Guarda ) is a district of Portugal, consisting essentially of the traditional province of Beira Alta, with the exception of the northern counties that belong to Trás -os- Montes and Alto Douro. In the north, bordering the District of Bragança, eastern Spain, in the south of the District of Castelo Branco and to the west the district of Coimbra and Viseu to the district. Area: 5518 km ². Population (2001): 173,716. Capital of the district of Guarda. License plate for trailers: GD.

According to the current main division of the country, the district shall notify the Centro Region, except Vila Nova de Foz Côa that is associated with the Região Norte, Douro subregion. The remaining circles ( Concelhos ) are distributed among the sub-regions Beira Interior Norte and Serra da Estrela, as well as a circle, which is associated with the sub-region Dão Lafões.
