Guidan Amoumoune

Guidan Amoumoune is a rural municipality in the Department Mayahi in Niger.

Geography

Guidan Amoumoune lies in the Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Bader Goula in the northwest, Tagriss in the northeast, Tchaké in the east, the south and Attantané Kornaka in the West. The municipality is divided into 70 administrative villages, 147 hamlets and five storage. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village guidan Amoumoune.

History

Before the arrival of the French at the turn of the 19th to 20th century guidan Amoumoune belonged to the independent state Gobir. The French administration set up in the early 20th century, a Canton based in Almoktar one, which is an administrative village in the municipality of guidan Amoumoune today. The Canton Almoktar 1924 dissolved and joined the Canton Mayahi. In 2002, the territory of the canton Mayahi was divided between the municipalities guidan Amoumoune, Mayahi, Attantané and Sarkin Haoussa as part of a nationwide administrative reform.

Population

At the 2001 census guidan Amoumoune had 60 461 inhabitants. For the year 2010 81.673 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

The main economic activities in the rural community are farming, animal husbandry and trade. UNICEF was built in guidan Amoumoune several granaries, which improved food security, and invested in building and equipping schools.
