Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson ( born August 8, 1979 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic handball player. In the Icelandic national team he plays on the left wing position.

Career

Association

Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson began in 1986, playing handball at Grótta Seltjarnarnes, he left towards Grótta KR 1991. From the 1995/96 season Guðjón was used in the men's team of Grótta KR, who entered in the highest Icelandic league. 1997, the winger got off with Grótta in the second highest Icelandic league, but he remained the club for another year faithful. In 1998 Guðjón joined KA Akureyri, with whom he won the championship in 2001. That same year, the two-time Icelandic handball player of the year went to Germany. In the early years he played for the Bundesliga club TUSEM food, with whom he won the EHF Cup in 2005. In the same year he moved to VfL Gummersbach. Here it was the end of his first season with a total of 264 goals scorer in the Bundesliga. For the season 2008/2009 he went to competitors Rhein- Neckar Löwen. After three years Sigurðsson moved in summer 2011 to the Danish first division side AG København. Since the 2012/13 season he runs on for the THW Kiel.

National

In the Icelandic national Guðjón played 293 international matches, where he threw 1,535 gates. With 66 goals, he was top scorer in the World Cup 2007 in Germany. In the 2008 Olympics he won with the Icelandic team the silver medal. In addition, he was selected as the best left winger in the " All- Star Team", as well at the European Championships in 2012 and 2014. During the Olympic Games in London he won with Iceland the preliminary round Group A loss point freely, but failed in the quarterfinals just to Hungary.

Others

From the Icelandic sports journalists Guðjón was elected in 2006 to Icelandic athlete of the year. With 405 points, he won the election before the football player Eidur Gudjohnsen Smári, who received 333 points.

Guðjón is married and has two daughters and a son.
