Ha'il (Arabic حائل, DMG hā ʾ il ) is a city in the north of Najd with 267 005 inhabitants ( 2004 census ).

The oasis city of Ha'il is the capital of the eponymous province, and lies on the southern edge of the desert Nefud. Meaning they gained by the location on the pilgrimage route between Baghdad and Mecca, or by once close trade relations to Najaf.

In addition, Ha'il was until the beginning of the 20th century capital of the tribal kingdom of part of the Shammar under the dynasty of the Beni Rashid. Since the violent integration of the region into the kingdom of their former arch enemies, Saudi Arabia, the city is an important administrative center for the northern areas of the country.
