Hainaut (province)

The Province of Hainaut (French Province de Hainaut, Hainaut Provincie Dutch, Walloon Hinnot, westfl. Enegouwn ) is a Belgian province. It belongs to the Walloon Region and the French Community of Belgium. The name derives from the river groves ( German hen Dutch. Hene ).

Provincial capital is Mons (Dutch and German mountains ), the largest city of the province is approximately 201,000 inhabitants Charleroi. Hainaut was dominated by the mining industry ( steel production, and others) in the past and struggled in recent decades with the consequences of structural change.

A sealed from West Flanders and France exclave forms the municipality of Comines -Warneton.

Facility communities are Comines- Comines ( Komen Waasten ), Enghien ( Enghien ), Flobecq ( Vloesberg ) and Mouscron ( Mouscron ).
