Hájske

Hájske (Slovak 1948-51 " Dverníky " - 1927-1948 " Kepežd " - to 1927 " Kepešd "; Köppeschd German, Hungarian Köpösd ) is a city and a municipality in Okres Šaľa of Nitriansky Region in western Slovakia. The number of inhabitants amounted to 1307 (31 December 2011 ).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Slovak Danube lowland, more precisely in the hilly part. The surrounding black soil makes the area very fertile for agriculture. Hájske is 12 kilometers from Sered and 17 kilometers from Šaľa.

In addition to the main village belongs to the municipality, the municipal Mladý háj, but which is not an official district.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1113 in the Zoborská documents as Copusde writing and belonged to the ownership of the castle Neutra. During the Mongol invasion in 1241 it was completely destroyed. From the Middle Ages until the abolition of serfdom in the 19th century by several noble families had their goods here.

Until 1918, the place was in the county Neutra within the Kingdom of Hungary and came afterwards to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. 1938 should be the place where the Hungarians as the result of the First Vienna Award ( the 1945 stock had ) be ceded, but remained in Czechoslovakia, and Slovakia. In 1948, the Hungarian -sounding name of national political reasons Dverniky ( " bouncer " ) and then in 1951 Hájske ( háj = " grove " ) was changed.

Whereas in the past was the main source of income for the population agriculture, today the majority are working in the industry.

The Roman Catholic church dates from the 1841 's on the floor plan of an older church.

Sports

In Hájske is currently the only Cricket Club of Slovakia (link).
