HÃ¥kon Kornstad

Håkon Kornstad ( born April 5, 1977 in Oslo) is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist.

Life and work

Kornstad studied saxophone at the Jazz Conservatory in Trondheim. There he founded with Wetle Holte and Per Zanussi, the trio Triangle. Later Erlend Skomsvoll and Live Maria rye were added, and the band was under the name Wibutee at the Bergen Festival 1998 Nattjazz her first major concert.

After studying Kornstad returned to Oslo, where he Bugge Wesseltoft took for his label Jazzland Recordings under contract. Here was released in 1999 his first album with Wibutee, Newborn Thing. In 2002 he received the music prize at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival. In addition Kornstad been working since 2000 as a duo with drummer Paal Nilssen -Love. In 2003 he recorded the album Eight Tunes We Like with pianist Håvard Wiik. Their second album together, The Bad and the Beautiful was nominated for the 2006 Spellemannprisen. He gave several concerts in China and toured Europe, the U.S. and Canada.

As a member of Jazzland Community, a group of jazz musicians of the Jazzland label he toured on with Wesseltoft, Sidsel Endresen, Eivind Aarset, Marius Reksjø and Wetle Holte. Appeared in 2007 at Jazzland his solo album Single Engine.
