Haligovce

Haligovce ( Helbingsau German, Hungarian Helivágása - Helivágás to 1907 - to 1892 Haligóc ) is a municipality in the north-eastern Slovakia with 676 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Stara Ľubovňa, a part of the Prešov Region.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northern part of the Spis Magura in the valley of the brook Lesniansky creek near the border with Poland. In part, the municipality covered with the Pieniny National Park. The center is located at an altitude of 530 m nm and is located 12 km from Stara Ves Spišská and 26 km from Stara Ľubovňa.

History

Haligovce was first mentioned in 1338 as Helinguagasa writing. After the Hussite Wars in the 15th century, the village was uninhabited, before it became the property of the Carthusian monastery in the near Cerveny Kláštor 1523. 1828 are listed 105 houses.
