Hans Bock (painter)

Hans Bock the Elder (c. 1550 in Saverne, † March 16, 1624 in Basel ) was a painter, draftsman, restorer and surveyors. He was a student of Hans Hug. In Basel City Hall in 1579 he restored the works of Hans Holbein the Younger, who had been commissioned to design the former Grand Council hall. Between 1608 and 1611 Bock created there own work: he painted above the portals the city's coat and put Victories with palm branches and a children's parade dar. 1608/ 09 originated from him the works " Jehoshaphat exhorts the judges " and " Herod of Hyrcanus ' to the lateral walls of the courtyard under the arcades. Above the Council staircase he created during this period, a work that the " Last Judgment " is. From influential Baslern like Felix Platter and Basil Amerbach he received commissions. They were also art collectors, so that Hans Bock the Elder found role models there. He is the successor to Holbein.
