Hans-Paul Bürkner

Hans -Paul Bürkner (* 1952 in Varel ) is a German management consultant. He was Chief Executive Officer until 2013, the Boston Consulting Group.

Hans -Paul Bürkner studied from 1971 at the Ruhr- University Bochum and in between the academic year of 1973/74 at Yale University ( degree MA in Economics) Economics ( Economics and Business Administration ) and graduated in 1976 with the degree of Graduate in Economics from. Subsequently, he obtained his doctorate at Oxford University with the help of a Rhodes scholarship. His thesis dealt with the savings behavior in the Philippines and in Thailand. After a short stint in Corporate Finance and International Syndication at Commerzbank AG began in 1981 with the Boston Consulting Group, where he became partner in 1987. In this position he built on the Frankfurt office, which he headed from 1991 to 1997, and the German banking practice group. Since 1998 he was the German leadership committee.

The 355 worldwide partner of the Boston Consulting Group chose him in 2003 for the fifth CEO of BCG and becoming the first non-American in this position. He succeeded Carl Stern. 2006 and 2009 he was re- elected for three years. Since January 2013 he is a director Chief ( Chairman ) of the BCG. His successor, Richard Lesser
