Hansjörg Knauthe

Hansjörg Knauthe ( born July 13, 1944 in Geising ) is a former German biathlete who competed for East Germany.

As a teenager Knauthe Four combination operation ( alpine skiing, cross country skiing, ski jumping ). He was educated at VEB Glashütte precision mechanic. During this time, he started in the near Cínovec with the military -around. He enlisted in the People's Police and trained from 1962 at the biathlon center of Cínovec. In addition to the Biathlon he runs continue cross-country, where his strengths lay in biathlon. For cross-country skiers Knauthe 1965 Junior Champion at the 10-kilometer route. But then he focused mainly on the sport of biathlon. 1967-1972 he was seven times in a row GDR Champion in the relay. In 1971 he won also the singles title. He celebrated his first major international success in the Biathlon World Championships in 1970, where he won bronze in the relay. Two years later he celebrated his greatest successes at the Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo. He won the silver medal in the 20 km and together with Horst Koschka, Joachim Meischner and Dieter Speer, he secured the bronze medal also still about 4 x 7.5 km relay event of the GDR. For these achievements, he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver. In his playing days, he started for the SG Dynamo Cínovec.

The international success paved Knauthe the further career. Although he had left school after the eighth grade, he acquired after his active career for university and studied at the DHfK and was subsequently qualified sports teacher. As a youth coach in biathlon and later as head of the section he remained the sport. In his role as head of the section Knauthe was responsible for the material and technical facilities of Cínovecká training center. After the turn, he was personal and property protectors on the Saxon State Chancellery. He lives in Geising.
