Haplogroup L3 (mtDNA)
Haplogroup L3 is a human genetics haplogroup of the mitochondria. For haplogroup L3 are the researchers believe that it originated 84000-104000 years ago.
It is particularly common in East Africa, in contrast to sub-Saharan Africa, where the haplogroups L1 and L2 represent around two thirds of the mtDNA haplogroups.
L3 is divided into several sub-groups, one of which has the Makrohaplogruppen M and N produced, from which are derived the most non-Africans.
After Maca -Meyer et al. (2001): " Haplogroup L3 is more related to Eurasian haplogroups than the divergent African clusters L1 and L2".

This phylogenetic tree of haplogroup subgroups of L3 is based on a paper by Mannis van Oven and Manfred Kayser and subsequent scientific research.
