Hardin is a city in Liberty County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city lies at the intersection of Highway 146 to Farm Road 834 just east of Countyzentrums in southeast Texas, is in the east about 100 miles from Louisiana, located in the southeast 85 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 5.9 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The town was once the Beaumont, Sour Lake and Western Railway had laid their tracks in the area, and after the family Hardin, after which the place was named, had donated land.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 755 people in 291 households and 219 families. The population density was 127.3 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 98.54 % White, 0.53 % African American, 0.00 % Native American, 0.13 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 0.66 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 0.13 % were of mixed descent, and 4.11% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 291 households 34.4 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.9 % were married couples living together. 8.9 % had a female householder with no husband, and 24.7% were non-families. 22.7 % of all households were single-person households, and 12.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size amounted to 3.03.

26.0% of the population were under 18 years old, 9.1 % from 18 to 24, 26.0% 25-44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.3 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 95.5 males.

The median income for a household was $ 41,016, and the median income for a family $ 47,500. Males have a median income of $ 36,964 versus $ 19,583 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,445. 8.7 % of the population and 6.9 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 10.2 % have children under the age of 18 and 11.0 % of those 65 or older.
