Harold B. Lee

Harold Bingham Lee ( born March 28, 1899 in Clifton, Oneida County, Idaho; † December 26, 1973 in Salt Lake City, Utah ) was the 11th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints.

Life

Lee was the son of Samuel Marion Lee and Louisa Emeline Bingham Lee his wife. He did his training at teacher training college Albion State Normal School and was then from 1918 to 1920 head of the district school in Oxford, Idaho. Subsequently, he was from 1920 to 1922 as a missionary in Denver, Colorado operates. He married in 1923, in the Salt Lake Temple remote Lucinda Tanner, with whom he has two children. From 1923 to 1928 he directs the Whittier School and the Woodrow Wilson School in Salt Lake City. From 1933 to 1937 he was a member of the City Council of Salt Lake City. In 1936 the First Presidency as the Executive Director of the security plan called him (later renamed welfare program ) of the Church. In 1941, Harold B. Lee was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

As an Apostle Lee was Chairman of the correlation committee, which has the task to coordinate the curricula of the Church to each other. After the death of David O. McKay Lee was appointed counselor to his successor, Joseph Fielding Smith. In this capacity, he continued to work on the development of programs for the improvement of teaching in the whole Church. Under his leadership, a training program for bishops was launched and the worldwide missionary program better systematized.

His presidency

After the death of Joseph Fielding Smith Lee was ordained and set on 7 July 1972 as President of the Church. In 1972 he presided over the area general conference in Mexico City and 1973 in Munich.

Under Lee's presidency, the first stakes were organized in Chile and Korea.

After 17 months and 19 days as President of the Church Harold B. Lee died on December 26, 1973 in Salt Lake City.
