Harvey Penick

Harvey Morrison Penick ( born October 23, 1904 in Austin, Texas, † April 2, 1995 ) was a prominent American golf coach.

Penick began his career as a caddy at Austin Country Club at the age of eight years. Five years later he became an assistant coach and in 1923 was appointed head coach. This he remained until 1973. He coached from 1931 to 1963, the golf team at the University of Texas at Austin, and three generations of famous golfers such as Sandra Palmer, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Kite, Mickey Wright, Betsy Rawls, and Kathy Whitworth.

For over 60 years Harvey Penick wrote in a little red book, what he taught, experienced and learned. The result hereof include Harvey Penick 's golf wisdom, aphorisms, instructions as well as physical and mental tricks for golfers of all levels. The book, which has sold over 1.3 million copies, is considered a cult book for golfers and top-selling sports book of all time.
