Hassaniya Arabic

Hassaniya (Arabic حسانية, DMG Hassaniya ) Hassaniyya, also Klam Hassan ( " Hassan language " ) or brackets al - Bidan ( " language of the whites "); is an Arabic dialect.

It is spoken mainly in the Western Sahara in Ard al - Bidan, the field of Bidhan ( Moors ), the center includes the countries of Mauritania and Western Sahara. Hassaniya is also common in parts of Niger, Mali, Morocco and Algeria. The term Klam Hassan derives from the Arab tribes Banī Hassan from which the resident Berber peoples " Arabized " from the 14th century. Klam al - Bidan refers either to the social classes of the white Moors or the whole of the Arabic-speaking Moors. The dialect contains Arab and African and French foreign words. The nomadic Bedouin origin of the dialect is clearly on the large vocabulary on the range livestock.

The most comprehensive grammar comes from David Cohen, 1963. The work describes the language of culture Qibla region in southwestern Mauritania, which is considered since the French colonial period as a political and cultural center of the country.
