Heinrich Friese

Heinrich Friese ( born May 4, 1860 in Schwerin, † September 8, 1948 ibid; Complete name: Heinrich Friedrich Karl Ludwig August Christian Friese ) was a German biologist and entomologist.

Life and work

Friese was built in 1860 as the son of Mecklenburg organ builder Friedrich Friese (III ) and his wife Maria, née Müller, born in Schwerin. He was initially an organ builder teaching in his father's workshop, but decided to study zoology, botany and physics ( 1886-1889 ). To the main focus of his research was the entomology, and especially the Apiculture. The results of his research trips, including to Spain, France and Hungary, he summarized the bees Europe already from 1895 to 1901 in his six -volume work.

Friese 1907 received an honorary doctorate from the Justus -Liebig- University of Giessen. 1919 to 1934 he headed the department of biology at the State Health Office Schwerin. He died in 1948 in Schwerin.

The bee genus Eufriesea is named in his honor.
