Hejnal

Hejnał ( Hungarian for twilight ) is a Polish signal of triumph, that with a trumpet, or a carillon of a tower ( town hall, church or similar) is usually played. Today, it is rather viewed as a traditional cultural heritage and played around the same time, mostly from out of town hall, some day.

Some Hejnałs have evolved over time to entire songs and its associated text.

History

The Krakow Hejnał Mariacki is also called the Broken Hejnał ( Przerwany Hejnał ). It was played in the Middle Ages to the dawn and dusk, to announce the opening and closing of the city gates. Since 1810 it is listed on a regular basis again, transferred at any hour in the four cardinal directions, and since 1927 also at lunch time on the radio. In the 20th century historical facts merged (eg Battle of Wahlstatt in April 1241 ), legends, and the 1928 children's book published by the American Eric P. Kelly for the first time in 1935 mentioned in guidebooks legend, after which the signal were to break, because the Tatar attack was taken in 1241, the trumpeter of an arrow. Now the Hejnał him will always played only up to the sound of honor, the trumpet player had played as the last before his death.
