Helmert (crater)

Helmert is an impact crater on the eastern edge of the lunar front side at the southern edge of Mare Smythii, east of the crater Kiess and south of Warner. The crater is very flat, since the interior was flooded with lavas of Mare.

The crater was officially named in 1973 by the IAU after the German mathematician Friedrich Robert Helmert and geodesics.
