Hencovce

Hencovce (Hungarian Hencfalva - to 1907 Hencóc ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 1308 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Vranov nad Topľou, a part of the Prešov Region.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northern part of the East Slovakian lowland on the right bank of the Ondava. The center is located at an altitude of 123 m nm and is five kilometers away from Vranov nad Topľou.

History

Hencovce was first mentioned in writing in 1372. 1828 are listed 98 houses and 720 inhabitants.

1970-1996 the village was part of Vranov nad Topľou.

Infrastructure

Economically important industrial area is south of the village, which was built in the 1950s, with a wood-processing factory (today Bukóza Holding as ) and textile factories Kali Agro and SLO.VI. Other residents commute to work in Vranov nad Topľou.

In Hencovce there is a kindergarten and a church primary school (grades 1 to 4). At the village, the State roads meet I/15 ( Vranov nad Topľou - Stropkov ) and I/18 ( Prešov - Michalovce ). It is a stop on the railway line Strazske - Prešov two kilometers south of the town center.
