Henry R. Pease

Henry Roberts Pease ( born February 19, 1835 in Winsted, Litchfield County, Connecticut, † January 2, 1907 in Watertown, South Dakota ) was an American politician ( Republican), who represented the state of Mississippi in the U.S. Senate.

A native of Connecticut Pease was formed at a normal school and then worked from 1848 to 1859 as a teacher. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1859, after which he began practicing as a lawyer in Washington.

During the Civil War Pease joined the Union army and rose to the Captain. After the war, as an educational officer ( superintendent of education ), he was in the state of Louisiana, who was put under military control, are used. From 1867 he worked in a similar function in the state of Mississippi, where the educational activities here at first were only freed slaves; later he was also the post of State Superintendent.

Following the resignation of U.S. Senator Adelbert Ames Henry Pease was appointed as his successor. He belonged to the Congress on February 3, 1874 to March 3, 1875; to the re-election he was not applied. Instead, he took over in 1875, the office of postmaster in the city of Vicksburg and was in the newspaper business working as a publisher and editor of the Mississippi Educational Journal.

In 1881, Pease moved to Dakota Territory and settled in Watertown. There he worked for the Land Office, a body responsible for public land independent government agency. Between 1895 and 1896 he was a member of the Senate of South Dakota for a legislative period.
