Henry Tattam

Henry Tattam (* December 28, 1788; † January 8, 1868 in Stanford Rivers, Essex ) was an English Koptologe and priests of the Church of England.

Life

Tattam became rector of the Anglican Church of St.Cuthbert in Bedford and from 1831 also of Great Woolstone in Buckinghamshire with 34 years. Both offices he pointed out to 1849. In Bedford he took over in 1845 nor the Archdeacon to 1866. Additional offices were the rector of Stanford Rivers in Essex ( 1849 ) and the function of the Chaplain - in -Ordinary to the Queen from 1853.

Tattam was the author of several theological and philosophical works, and translator of Coptic texts. In 1835 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society. Tattam received several honorary degrees from various universities, as from Trinity College in Dublin, of the University of Göttingen and the University of Leiden.
