Herb Morand

Herb Morand (* 1905, † February 23, 1952 in New Orleans) was an American trumpeter of the Oldtime Jazz.

Morand began at the age of eleven years playing the trumpet after he had heard King Oliver. He then worked with Nat Towles in New Orleans, eventually moved to New York City and played there with his half-sister, the blues singer Lizzy Miles (1895-1963), and Cliff Jackson. After his return to New Orleans, he worked with his own band and Chris Kelly, then moved to Chicago and in 1929 a member of the Beale Street Washboard band on the side of Johnny Dodds. From 1935 to 1938 he played with the Harlem Hamfats, where it made ​​its appearance as a soloist. With this ensemble he took blues, jazz in New Orleans style and swing, even even country music. 1941 moved Morand back to New Orleans, where he led his own formation; 1948 to 1950 he was a member of the band of George Lewis. Under his own name he took 1949/50, on for American Music, but then retired due to illness of the music scene back.
