Hermann Iseke

Hermann Iseke ( born March 9, 1856 in Holungen; † January 14, 1907 in Kalkfontein, German South-West Africa ) was one of the most important poets of the Eichsfeld and is the creator of the calibration field song, the unofficial anthem of the Eichsfeld. In addition to his romantic home seals the Doctor of Law and has published numerous chaplains, most edifying writings.

Life

Hermann Iseke received his first instruction in Latin by the then chaplain Andreas Raabe in Holungen, a famous linguist. From 1867 to 1873 he went to high school in the Holy City, Mühlhausen, where he in 1874 successfully passed the Abitur examination. He then studied law at the universities of Würzburg (1874 ), Leipzig (1874 - 75), Göttingen (1876 - 78) and Greifswald ( 1878). Here he passed the First State Examination, received his doctorate in 1879 in Jena Dr. jur. and worked as a clerk in Duderstadt and Künzelsau. During this time he was looking for a new way of life, moved to Münster, where he studied philosophy and German (1879 - 1880).

In 1880 he decided to become a priest and studied theology in Freiburg, Breslau and Münster. Iseke was an enthusiastic member of the cartel Association of Catholic German Student Vereinees (KV) and to his study sites each active member of a KV- connection; Valhalla in Würzburg, the Teutonia in Leipzig, the Normannia in Greifswald, the Winfridia in Göttingen, the Germania in Münster, the Brisgovia in Freiburg and the Unitas in Wroclaw. When he learned of the outbreak of the Boxer Rebellion in the summer of 1900, he volunteered for the German expeditionary force, however, and took the only Catholic chaplain at the so-called " East Asian expedition " into the Chinese Empire in part. He then visited the Western States of North America (1900 - 1902) and worked on his return again as a military chaplain in Kassel and Saarbrücken.

In 1905 he went as chaplain to the German colonial force to Keetmanshoop in German South West Africa, now Namibia. Hermann Iseke died on January 14, 1907 in a field hospital in Kalkfontein from malaria and was buried there. On June 20, he was exhumed, transported to Germany and buried in the cemetery of Holungen with great sympathy of the population again. Aftermath

In his birthplace Holungen him a memorial stone was erected in honor and the home club bears his name. The city holy city named a street after him. In November 2006, the former Clara -Zetkin- school was renamed Bischofferode and now bears the name Isekes.
