Hermann von Ramberg

Hermann Ramberg, since 1849 Freiherr von Ramberg (* November 24, 1820 in Vienna, † December 26, 1899 in Graz ) was an imperial Austrian general of cavalry.

Family

Hermann was the son of k.u.k. Feldmarschalleutnants Georg Heinrich von Ramberg. Father George and his children were not brought until July 25, 1849 with a diploma of 22 January 1850 in Vienna in the Austrian hereditary baron.

His brother was the painter and illustrator Arthur Freiherr von Ramberg ( 1819-1875 ). His great- uncle was the Hanoverian painter and draftsman Johann Heinrich Ramberg (1763-1840), his nephew was the marine painter August von Ramberg ( 1866-1947 ).

Life

His education was Ramberg, along with his brother, by tutors. After he had received as "external " in Vienna A-levels (Abitur ), he entered the University of Prague to study law. Without graduating, he left the University in 1841 and joined as a cadet in the Imperial and Royal A cavalry.

Early as 1847 Ramberg was promoted to captain and, as such, in a regiment of cuirassiers in the wars of 1848-49 in part. In 1849 he was in Hungary aide to the Russian general Fyodor Panutine ( ru: Панютин, Фёдор Сергеевич ).

Nine years later he was promoted to lieutenant colonel the 1st Cuirassier Regiment. In 1866 he was promoted to colonel and as such you entrusted him with the management of Brunswick- Cuirassiers (No. 7) with whom he fought against the Prussians.

Two years later he was transferred as a major general and brigade commander after five churches. Ramberg in 1874 was promoted to the military commander of Pressburg and commanded there as a Lieutenant- Commander and the 14th Division of the Imperial Army. Effective August 21, 1878, the emperor appointed him personally to the commander of the 5th Army Corps, which was used in Bosnia. After Austria had in 1881 given up its crew, Ramberg was treated as Commanding General to Zagreb.
