Hermiswil is a municipality in the Oberaargau the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Hermiswil is located on 494 m above sea level. M., 4 km south of Herzogenbuchsee and 10 km southwest of the city Langenthal ( straight line ). The small village extends in the middle Önztal, in Molassehügelland the Buchsiberge south of Herzogenbuchsee, in the Upper Aargau.

Population

With 99 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Hermiswil one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Bern. Of the residents 99.0 % are German, 1.0 % speak Romansh (as of 2000). The population of Hermiswil amounted in 1850 to 155 residents in 1900 to 112 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population increased to 1930 from first to 78 people. Since about 1950, the number of inhabitants lies always in the range between 100 and 120 people.

Economy

Traffic

The municipality is situated on the main road from Burgdorf to Langenthal. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1289 under the name Hermanswile. Later, the names Hermenswile ( 1361 ), Hermannswyl ( 1386 ), Hermenschwyl ( 1539) and Hermiswyl (1784 ) published. The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Hariman and thus means the homestead Hariman.

Probably belonged Hermiswil since the Middle Ages to the Lords of stone, which were under the suzerainty of Kyburg. Through inheritance, the village came in 1466 to the city of Solothurn. Only with the signing of the contract Wyniger in 1665 came under Hermiswil Bernese rule and the bailiwick cheeks and the district court Bollodingen been assigned. The place was a horse -changing station for stagecoaches (Inn " to a white Rössli " ​​) in the 17th century.
