Hersiwil

Hersiwil was until December 31, 2012, a municipality in the district water office of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.

As of January 1, 2013 merged with the municipality Hersiwil Heinrichswil- Winistorf the new political community three courtyards.

Geography

Hersiwil is located on 491 m above sea level. M., 9 km south-east of the main town Canton of Solothurn (air line). The village is located on a hill in the rolling countryside of the east of the flood plain of the river Emme, in southern Solothurn Plateau.

The area of ​​1.4 km ² large former municipal area includes a portion of the moraine in the outer water office, which was formed by the glacial Rhône glacier. The former communal land extends from the hill of Hersiwil east to the Aegerten forest, where 505 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Hersiwil lies, and west across the valley of a page of Bach's Ösch to Ruetihof on the verge of the forest. From the former rural community area in 1997 7 % was attributable to settlements, 23 % of forest and woody plants and 70 % to agriculture.

Population

With 191 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Hersiwil was one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Solothurn. Of the residents 99.4 % are German and 0.6 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Hersiwil amounted in 1850 to 137 residents in 1900 to 152 inhabitants. After peaking in 1910 with 180 inhabitants, the population fluctuated during the 20th century, always in the range between 140 and 160 people.

Economy

Hersiwil was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming and fruit growing and cattle breeding and forestry have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including an operation of mechanical engineering. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Solothurn, and Bern Herzogenbuchsee.

Traffic

The former municipality is traffic moderately well developed, although it is off the bigger of passage; the main access is from Kriegstetten. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern- Zurich ) is located about 5 km from the center. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1324 under the name Hersenwile. Later, the names Hersewile ( 1397 ), Hersenwil ( 1444 ) and Hersiwil (1538 ) published. The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Herizo and means in the courts of the Herizo.

Since the Middle Ages Hersiwil was under the rule hold, came up with this in 1466 in the town of Solothurn and the Bailiwick of war Stetten was assigned. Was not until the 1665 Treaty Wyniger on the high justice of Bern Solothurn. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) Hersiwil belonged during the Helvetic Republic to the district Biberist and from 1803 to the district Kriegstetten, which was officially renamed in 1988 in the district water office. Hersiwil does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish war Stetten.

Until 1798 Hersiwil formed together with the adjacent Heinrichswil a double community. After that until 1854 had the Dreihofgemeinde Heinrichswil- Hersiwil - Winistorf stock before all three places to politically independent municipalities were collected.
