In the African Cup of 2010, he reached the quarter-finals Zambia, where the team was eliminated on penalties to Nigeria. For Zambia, it was the first time since 1996 that the group stage of the continental tournament was over. Following Renard opted not to renew his expiring contract and became the new coach of the Angolan national team. His engagement there already ended in October 2010 and Renard then took over in 2011 the Algerian first division club USM Alger.

In October 2011, Renard again took over the post of national coach of Zambia, after his successor Dario Bonetti was dismissed after successfully qualifying for the African Cup of Nations in 2012. In October 2013 Renard accepted the offer of the French first division club FC relegation-threatened Sochaux for an initial fixed term contract until end of season.
