Hilla (Arabic الحلة, DMG al - Hilla ) is a city in Iraq and is located 100 km south of Baghdad in Babil province. It has 289 714 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005). Near Hilla lie ancient ruins, such as Babylon, Borsippa, Alberes and Kish. The grave of the Jewish prophet Ezekiel to lie in a village near Hilla.

Hilla is located in an agricultural area. Through extensive irrigation they grow several types of cereal, fruit and raw materials for textiles.

Hilla was founded in 1101 and was during the Ottoman and British rule, an important administrative center. Hilla voluntarily submitted to the Mongols in 1260 and remained so largely spared from the devastation of the Mongol invasion, Hulagu promoted even the Shi'ite scholars. This created an outstanding medieval grammar school, from the Al- Hilli came among others.
