Himmelcron is a municipality in the district of Kulmbach ( government district of Upper Franconia ), situated on the main road 303 and the Federal Highway 9 (Junction 39 - Bad Berneck / Himmelcron ).

History

The name was originally Himmelkrons Pretzendorf, here there was also a castle of the Counts of Weimar- Orlamünde. 1279 Pretzendorf the castle was converted into a convent of Cistercian nuns, which was named the monastery Himmelcron. In 1545 it was abolished during the Reformation. The Margrave of Brandenburg -Bayreuth took over the monastic property and built a summer residence here. In the 16th century, the name Himmelcron was transferred to the place. The later post of Prussian principality of Bayreuth since 1792 fell in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 to France and came to Bavaria in 1810. 1818 Himmelcron Himmelcron was an independent municipality.

Incorporations

On 1 July 1971, until then independent municipality Gössenreuth was incorporated. On January 1, 1976, added Lanz village.

Mayor Gerhard Schneider ( CSU / FWG Himmelcron ). He's mayor since 2002, was in the 2008 local elections with 94.40 % in 2014 and re-elected with 93.99 %.
