Wirsberg is a market in the district of Kulmbach ( government district of Upper Franconia ). The health resort is situated on the main road 303, approximately 20 kilometers north of Bayreuth.

Wirsberg is located in the Franconian Forest nature park.

History
First documentary mention was Wirsberg end of the 13th century. The ruins Wirsberg rises on a rocky cliff in the center of Wirsberg. The place was eponymous for the dynasty of Wirsberg. The Raven Steiner of Wirsberg had held several castle goods. The former top official of the Prussian Principality of Bayreuth since 1792 coincided with this in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 to France and came to Bavaria in 1810. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.
Incorporations
On April 1, 1971, until then independent municipality Neufang was incorporated.

Culture and sights
- The municipality is a member of Cittaslow, a company incorporated in Italy in 1999 motion to decelerate and increase the quality of life in cities.
- Worth seeing is the built in Margrave style parish church of St. John with an image that may have come from the school of Lucas Cranach and located in the church pulpit altar of Adam Wolfgang Knoll.
- Ruins of Heilingskirche at Neufang (also Three Mary's Church ). The former sanctuary fell into disuse after the Reformation

The station New Market Wirsberg lies on the railway line Bamberg -Hof ( inclined plane ) and on the railway line Bayreuth New Market Wirsberg. The station is located in New Market.
Wirsberg is on the cycle path Euregio Egrensis.
