Hinrik Bornemann

Hinrik Bornemann, also Hinrich Bornemann (* 1450 in Hamburg, † was not before 1499 and not later than 1510 active in Hamburg painter and official painter of the late Gothic period.

Life

Bornemann was the son of the Hamburg painter and co-founder of the Hamburg Brotherhood of the Guild of St. Luke Hans Bornemann. After his death, before the year 1474 the Hamburg painter Absolon Stumme was first Hinrik Funhof, then his stepfather. Hinrik Bornemann's main work is the St. Luke's altar for St. Mary's Cathedral, which is located since the demolition of the cathedral as a result of secularization in 1806 as one of three medieval altars in the Church of St. James in Hamburg. This altar was completed in 1499 by Absolon Stumme and Wilm Dedeke, the latter married the widow Hinrik Bornemann.

With his influence, and the resulting 1500 triptych is associated in the cathedral at Güstrow.

In the history of art of the 20th century was largely disputed whether Hinrik Bornemann or his stepfather Absolon Stumme was the master of Hamburg Domaltars. The former high altar of the cathedral in Hamburg was after its demolition enters some items in today's Poland, on the Marienburg. Also, the Master of the Luneburg foot washing is brought as Notname with Hinrik Bornemann in conjunction.
