The Hochkönigstraße (B 164) - in Tirol Hochkönigstraße - is a country road in Austria. It has a length of 75 km, with the first section a relatively minor mountain road, the second but the most important Austrian domestic east-west connection:

  • Beginning in Bischofshofen in the valley of the Salzach she leads first between King and Dientener high mountains along the Dientener saddle ( 1342 m above sea level. A. ) and further down into the valley of Saalachstrasse to Saalfelden at stony sea.
  • Beyond the Saalachstrasse the road leads in Leogang valley between Leogang Stone Mountains and Lofer Steinberg mountains in the north and the Kitzbühel Alps in the south via Leogang up to the semolina Pass ( 975 m above sea level. A. ), and Fieberbrunn back down to the Valley of the Kitzbühel Ache to St. Johann in Tirol.

In the last section of the road runs parallel to the Salzburg -Tiroler -Bahn.

History

Since 1948, three sections of today's Hochkönigstraße were in Salzburg as the country roads of the second order:

  • The 9.6 km long Muhlbacher road between Bischofshofen and Mühlbach
  • The 5.7 km long road between Almer Alm and Saalfelden
  • The 7.1 km long road between Leogang Saalfelden and Leogang

With effect from 1 July 1962, the latter two streets have been extended:

  • The Almer Road was extended by 8.2 km to Hinterthal.
  • The Leoganger road was extended by 11.0 km to the Tyrolean border at the pass Grießen.

The middle section between Mühlbach and rear valley was declared by the State Law of 11 April 1962 on the competition road. In the Austrian legal language competition called the joint financing of a project by different institutions, each of which accepts a statutory percentage of maintenance costs. In this case took

On the Tyrolean side Fieberbrunner street of Sankt Johann was declared to the border by the Tiroler Straße Act of September 28, 1950 from national road first order and designated as L 1.

The Hochkönigstraße heard since 1 January 1973 the network of federal roads in Austria.

Traffic restrictions

The following restriction applies to Hochkönigstraße: B 164 Hochkönigstraße from km 56.251 (municipality Hochfilzen ) to km 75.76 (St. Johann in Tirol ) in both directions for trucks over 7.5 tonnes total weight, except towing, roadside assistance, military and trucks, which are loaded or unloaded in the following communes, or have their source or their destination in these communities: St. Johann in Tirol, Fieberbrunn in Tirol, Hochfilzen and Leogang in the province of Salzburg.
