Hohenstein (Reutlingen)

Hohenstein is a municipality on the plateau of the Swabian Alb in the district of Reutlingen, about 20 kilometers south of Reutlingen. The community is named after the former castle Hohenstein.

Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is situated in 720-830 meters above sea level in the middle of the so-called Middle Kuppenalb. This is characterized by dry valleys with juniper heaths and rolling wooded hills.

Community structure

The community was formed in the course of municipal reform on 1 January 1975 from the then independent municipalities Bernloch, Eglingen, Meidelstetten, Oberstetten and Ödenwaldstetten.

The districts of the former municipalities are identical to the five districts of the municipality. The official designation of the districts is done in the form " Hohenstein - ... ". The election of the municipal council is based on the loggerhead part of site selection, the districts accordingly form at the same time residential districts within the meaning of Baden-Württemberg municipal code.

Among the districts Bernloch, Eglingen, Meidelstetten and Oberstetten each include only the villages of the same name. To Ödenwaldstetten include the village Ödenwaldstetten and the courts Ludwigshof and Maßhalderbuch.

In the municipality the waste places of Beuren, thistle, Serious Brühl, Gerenberg, Kriechbaum, Wahlberg and Walseich are ( district Bernloch ) Buchhausen, Henn village and Mr. village (hamlet Eglingen ) Gaustetten ( district Meidelstetten ), dried food ( district Oberstetten ) and Mette village, Weidental and brick hut in the district Ödenwaldstetten.

History

The name Bernloch already appears in 1161 as a religious estate of a Premonstratensian monastery. However, the counts of Achalm were the landlords. Later it came to the Duchy of Württemberg, where it first belonged to the upper office Urach.

The first mention of Eglingen dates from the year 904 from 1249 to 1413 ruled by the Lords of Eglingen. Then it was sold to Heinz Speth. 1805 finally went under the ownership of the media coverage due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss conclusion to the Kingdom of Württemberg.

Meidelstetten stands as Mutilistat on a deed from the year 777 The monastery Weißenau knows nobles of Meidelstetten in the 12th and 13th centuries. Later it came to the Duchy of Württemberg, where it first belonged to the upper office Urach.

Oberstetten stands as Obrensteten in the chronicle of the monastery Zwiesel in 1100. The Hohenstein castle and the village Oberstetten fell after the Lords of Oberstetten Adalbert of Berolzheim. 1497 was the possession of Kaspar von Mayrhofen boys over to the monastery Zwiesel. In the context of secularization because of Reichsdeputationshauptschluss circuit, the place came to the Kingdom of Württemberg. In the Zwiefalter Chronicle of 1137/1138 also Ödenwaldstetten is mentioned as Walichstetin. Since the 15th century, the modern name is in use. This district also went in 1497 in the possession of the monastery Zwiesel over, but the Duchy of Württemberg soon took over the country's domination. So Ödenwaldstetten was then the only district of present-day Hohenstein already before 1800 to Oberamt Münsingen.

The rest of the municipality came with the local government reform in 1813 to Oberamt Münsingen and later to 1973 to the district Münsingen. After its dissolution it came to the district of Reutlingen.

Religions

After the Lutheran Reformation in 1517 and the associated religious schism between the Reformed Protestant and the Catholic Church, the communities of today Hohenstein in the field of confessional border, for the religious and ecclesiastical identity and the corresponding cultural differences, sometimes differences of the village were populations with each other until the 20th century remained influential. While in Bernloch and Meidelstetten 1537 and in Ödenwaldstetten the Reformation was introduced in 1562, and Eglingen Oberstetten remained Roman Catholic.

In Bernloch there is also a New Apostolic Church today.

Parish council

The council consists of the elected honorary councilors and the mayor as chairman. The mayor is entitled to vote in the local council. The local council in Hohenstein has 14 volunteer members. The turnout at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 was 58.2 %. Hohenstein is one of the few communities in which the council was elected by the majority vote system. This means that only one list (CDU Association ) was set up and those candidates who received the most votes are elected.

Mayor

The mayor is elected for a term of eight years. The current term of office by Jochen Zeller ends in April 2015.

Coat of arms

Blazon: In red on green hills a golden (yellow ) square tower (ruin with translucent at the gate and window shield reason), flanked on both sides by a respective upwardly facing and outside silver ( white ) Dietrich. Since August 1, 1977, the congregation leads the current coat of arms.

Hohenstein is located on the Swabian poet road that leads past many sights.

Museums

The farmhouse museum in the district Ödenwaldstetten is known far beyond the borders of the community beyond. The 400 -year-old main building is fully furnished and shows visitors the peasant craftsmanship of yesteryear. In the cottage garden of the Swabian Alb are also seen medicinal herbs and spices in addition to historical fruit. In the attic there is a teddy bear collection.

Structures

The Hohenstein castle was named for the church today. It was inhabited around 1100 by rich nobles. The former court festivities were well known. Since 1438 the castle is no longer inhabited and have completely decayed into ruin.

On the grounds of the former Eberhard- Finckh barracks communities Kleinengstingen, Hohenstein and Trochtelfingen have founded in 1994 the business park Haid.
