Hoher Stein (Fichtelgebirge)

The High stone is a rock group at Nordostfuß the mountain head, part of the train Waldstein in the Fichtelgebirge.

Appearance and location

The High Stone has a height of about 25 m, the highest point is 817 m above sea level. NHN. There is a granite rock in Wollsackverwitterung. On the rock -iron ladders leading to the viewing platform, the rock is classified as rock climbing.

It is located west of the city Kirchenlamitz and northeast of the Great Forest Stone Forest District Haller Forst South. Although the high stone is not far from the little Waldstein, another rock formation, removed, this can only be achieved indirectly. In addition to the Lamitzquelle are also the attractions of Epprechtsteins nearby.

History as a landmark

The rock is now on the border of the Upper Franconian Counties Wunsiedel and yard. Previously here was the political boundary of the Sechsämter country and the country club yard, which is apparent from the "Land of the book Sechsämter " of 1499 (see also Brandenburg- Kulmbach ). About the ridge was also the ecclesiastical boundary between the bishoprics of Bamberg and Regensburg.

On the west side of the Hohenzollern coat of arms are in the rocks (32 cm wide, 38 cm high) and two crosses (20 cm x 20 cm) inscribed. On the east side you will find also a cross and a German up arrow carved.
