Holberg Suite

From Holberg's Time - Suite in the Old Style in G major ( Nor. Fra Holberg tid - Suite i gammel style ) op 40 is a five-movement suite by Edvard Grieg, which he originally composed as a piano music, but in a written by Grieg himself version was known for String Orchestra.

Background and construction

Grieg composed the suite the occasion of the 200th birthday of the Danish- Norwegian poet Ludvig Holberg in 1884. The style of music is dance and song forms of the early 18th century, ie during the lifetime of Holberg, inspired. The rates are as follows:
