Holbrook (Navajo: Tiisyaakin ) is a town with 4917 inhabitants ( 2000) in Navajo County in the U.S. state of Arizona on an area of 40 km ². The town is the county seat of administration ( county seat ) of the Navajo County.
History
Holbrook was named after the first engineer of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad.
In 1895, Holbrook became the county seat of Navajo County.
On July 19, 1912, a meteorite exploded with an estimated weight of about 190 kg over the city and a large number ( probably 16,000 ) boulders weighing between 0.1 g and 6.6 kg fell on the city.
Attractions
One of the most famous attractions of the place is the Wigwam Motel on Historic Route 66 The detached bungalows are Indians - modeled tipis. However, the buildings are made of concrete.
The motel in the Oscar -nominated Pixar animated film Cars by John Lasseter (2006) is based on the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook.
Built in 1898, Historic Navajo County Courthouse in the center of Holbrook is now a museum. Both buildings are registered in the list of historical monuments of the United States ( National Register of Historic Places ).
The Petrified Forest National Park ( Petrified Forest ) is located about 28 miles ( 45 km) east of Holbrook.
Traffic
Since the construction of Interstate Highway 40 is bypassed by Holbrook Highway, which led earlier on Route 66 through the city.
North of Holbrook is the Interstate 40 south of the town meets the U.S. Highway 180 on the Arizona State Route 77
