Holving
Holving ( Lorraine: Holwinge ) is a commune with 1244 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Sarreguemines, for Canton Sarralbe and community association Albe et Lacs. The inhabitants are called Holvingeois.
Geography
Holving lies west of the small town Sarralbe, in the south are the municipalities of Val -de- Guéblange and Kappelkinger, to the west the town Hilsprich and the North East, the community Richeling.
Holving is via the N 56 - connected to the national road network (St. Avold Sarralbe ). The nearest large towns are Sarreguemines and Freyming -Merlebach.
The municipality is crossed by the River Mother creek that flows into the Alb.
The municipality consists of six villages: Ballering, bed ring, Diederfing, Holving, Hinsing and Hirbach, where Hirbach is the largest village.
In Hirbach located at Hirbacher pond several campsites.
History
The place was first mentioned in 1225 as Holbingen, then half Ingen ( 1226 ), and Holvingen ( 1238 ). The Hirbacher pond ( 52 h) was built as part of the Maginot Line in 1939 to defend France against Germany. Today it is a popular leisure destination.
