Hořovice

Hořovice ( German Horschowitz, Horowitz ) is a city in Okres Beroun in the Czech Republic.

Geography

It lies on the natural boundary of landscape sites Pürglitzer Forest ( Krivoklatsko ), the Bohemian Karst ( Český kras ) and the promontory of Brdywaldes halfway between Prague and Pilsen. To the south rise the Sibenicni Kopec ( Gallows ) and the Dražovka ( Drazkowka Mountain). Through the city flows the Cerveny Potok ( Red Stream ), which opens at Zdice in the Litavka.

History

After evaluation of the archaeological finds, the settlement of the present urban area began in the 10th century. At the turn of the 13th and 14th century it was considerably intensified in association with the emergence of the commercial court. This Handelshof was later converted into a Gothic castle town (today's Old Palace ). After this settlement and the village Hořovice the family of the lords of Hořovice named. For the first time brothers Neostup and Habart were mentioned in 1233 with this title the phrase.

1322 Hořovice became a town. The older castle and the church were then outside the city wall.

1425, the city was burned down by the people of Prague after the siege of Schebrak and Totschnik on fire. 1430 raided this time the encampments under Czert the place.

As of January 1830, Earl Eugene of Wrbna Freudenthal and the owner of the domain Horschowitz and Ginetz, which includes the goods Komorau, Bezdietitz and Waldek included.

The second division of the settlement unit in the city and the municipality Hořovice United Wiska ( Velka Víska ) persisted until the 20th century. It was only in 1919 Velka Víska was incorporated into the city Hořovice.

Until 1960 Hořovice was the seat of Okres Hořovice.

Population

The town has 6,695 inhabitants Czech (31 December 2007 ).

For the city Hořovice no districts are reported. Hořovice consists of the Katastralbezirken Hořovice and Velka Víska. The twelve basic settlement units are: Dražovka, Hořovice - historické JADRO, Dražovkou Pod, Pod zámkem, Sídliště, Sklenářka, Šibeniční Kopec, cihelny U, U Červeného potoka, U podlužské silnice, Višňovka and Zámek.

Attractions

The oldest buildings are next to the remains of the old castle, the Saint Giles Church. Most important monument is the Castle Hořovice, which was built in the early 18th century under Prince Johann Franz von Wrbna. In 1905 the new town hall was built.

Economy and Transport

Hořovice is the production, administrative and cultural center of the area. Traditionally, especially the iron foundry and metal processing was represented here.

The Hořovice station located on the Bohemian Western Railway, the present railway route Prague - Plzeň. In addition to the regional transportation here also keep the fast trains from Prague through Pilsen to Eger, and further international connections to Nuremberg or Munich.

Above the town center there is a bus station at Bozena Nemcova - Square.

About 6 km off the highway from Pilsen to Prague ( Dálnice 5).
