Horst Hörnlein ( born May 31, 1945 in Möhrenbach ) is a former German luger who competed for East Germany.

Life

1967 Hörnlein was disqualified at the world championship in Hammarstrand in Sweden because he had heated the skids of his carriage, and thus achieves better lubricity. He was also with Bredow 1969 Vice World Champion, 1970 European Champion and 1973 World Champion in doubles. After his career Hörnlein became a coach and was involved with the construction of the bobsleigh in the GDR. Later he was commissioned among others by Bobweltverband order to bring the smaller Bobnationen closer to the top. He coached in the early 1990s the British bobsledder to Sean Olsson.

Hörnlein in 1984 awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold as well as 1972 and 1988 in silver.
