Hrabušice

Hrabušice ( until 1927 slovak also " Hrabošice "; German Kabsdorf - older even Kapsdorf or calf village, Hungarian Káposztafalva - to 1907 Káposztafalu ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia.

Geography

The municipality is located in the historical region Zips in the western part of the Hornád boiler ( Hornádska kotlina ), on the shores of Hrabušice brook, which joins near the town in Hornád. The village center is located 548 meters above the sea. The place is situated on the northern slopes of the Slovak Paradise and is the starting point for some natural attractions ( see below). Larger towns nearby are Poprad ( to the northwest ) and Ves, both 16 km ( to the southeast ). The nearest rail connection is located in the neighboring Vydrník (3 km to the north ) on the railway line Košice - Žilina.

History

The first recorded settlement was made at the end of the La Tène period; there was also a settlement of Púchov culture from the Roman period. The first written record of the village was carried out in 1279 as a villa Composita. It later belonged to collar the Saxons and from 1465 to the domination of Spis Castle. There was in place a brewery, a saw mill, a mill and a smelter. The population was concerned with agriculture and hunting.

Attractions

  • Roman Catholic Church of St. Lawrence from the 13th century, originally in Romanesque style. Inside is among other things an altar from the years 1516-1520 from the workshop of Paul of Leutschau.
  • Presbytery from the 17th century, initially in the Renaissance, today in the Baroque style
  • The remains of the castle Marcelov hrad on the mountain Zelena hora ( 654 m nm, literally Green Mountain ), which was built in the 13th century and destroyed in 1462 by the citizens of Levoča
  • The remains of the monastery Kláštorisko on the refuge rocks ( útočišťa scale ), which was built in 1299 and destroyed by Carthusian monks in the 16th century
  • Natural attractions in the Slovak Paradise, including gorges Sucha Bela, Prielom Hornádu, Velky Sokol, Piecky and Kláštorská roklina. These are accessible from the place of Podlesok.

Population

According to the 2001 census were of 2173 inhabitants: 1814 Slovaks ( 83.5 %), 348 Roma (16% ) and others. 1992 ( 91.7 %) of the residents gave as a confession to Roman Catholic.
