Hrubý Šúr

Hruby Šúr (Slovak to 1927 " Šúr "; Hungarian Hegysúr ) is a municipality in Okres Senec within the Bratislavský kraj in Slovakia.

Geography

Hruby Šúr located in the Danubian Lowland on a tributary of the Little Danube, near the Čierna voda river. The city Senec is located 7 km to the north and the capital, Bratislava located 30 km to the west.

History

Archaeological finds in today's municipal area are dated to the late Stone Age. The first direct evidence of a settlement dates from the 7th century, was found next to a burial place from the 8th and 9th centuries.

The first written mention as Swr dates back to 1245th At that time the village belonged to the local nobleman families and since the 15th century to the families Petheo, Csorba, Illésházy, Sági and finally Palffy, which retained their influence until 1918. The population engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry.

Until 1918 the town was the county Pressburg in the Kingdom of Hungary, after which he joined the newly formed Czechoslovakia. Because of the First Vienna Award in 1938-45 they were again in Hungary.
