Hugh Lindsay (bishop)

Hugh Lindsay ( born June 20, 1927 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England; † January 19, 2009 in Grange- over-Sands, Cumbria ) was Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle.

Life

Hugh Lindsay studied at Ushaw College, but was obliged to military service with the Royal Air Force ( RAF). He was employed from September 1945 to January 1948, especially in India. He then continued his studies in theology and philosophy at Ushaw Moor Durham. Lindsay received on July 19, 1953 by Bishop John Brendan McCormack at St. Mary's Cathedral to the priesthood. First, in the care of souls, he subsequently worked in the Diocese of line. In 1959 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle under Bishop James Cunningham.

1969 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Cuncacestre and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. He also supported the bishop diseased James Cunningham. In 1974 he was appointed Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle. He received his episcopal consecration on 11 December 1969, the Archbishop of Liverpool, George Andrew Beck AA; Co-consecrators were John Gerard McClean, Bishop of Middlesbrough, and James Hagan CSSp, Bishop of Makurdi in Nigeria.

On January 11, 1992 his illness resignation by Pope John Paul II was upheld. Lindsay was up to his death chaplain at the Augustinian nuns in Grange- over-Sands.
