Hugo Erdmann

Hugo Erdmann ( born May 8, 1862 in Prussian Holland, Prussia, † 25 June 1910 in Müritzsee, Priborn ) was a German chemist and university teacher.

Life

After private lessons from his father Erdmann attended high school in Tilsit. He studied in Strasbourg, Munich and at the Martin- Luther -University Halle -Wittenberg mathematics and chemistry. He wrote his dissertation on " Condensationen and metamorphoses of Phenolcrotonsäure ". In 1894 he became professor of chemistry at Halle and moved in 1901 to the Technical University of Charlottenburg in Berlin. Together with Jacob Volhard, he discovered the Thiophensynthese, named after the two of Volhard - Erdmann cyclization. In 1898, he created the name " noble gases ". Erdmann died in a boat accident on Lake Müritz in the community Priborn.
